Why TRANSIT?
Therapy, Research, and Action for Navigating Social and Institutional Trauma
At TRANSIT Psychology, we believe mental health is a movement. Healing doesn’t always follow a straight line. Sometimes it feels fast and fluid, other times it slows down, takes detours, or stalls. Setbacks and standstills are part of the process, but movement—even subtle shifts—still matter.
We named TRANSIT after the transportation networks that connect us.
Just like a subway or bus system, therapy can carry us across neighborhoods of experience: past, present, and future; uncertainty, joy, loss, and hope. When the system runs smoothly, it’s transformative. You feel connected, resourced, and mobile. However, delays, breakdowns, or reroutes happen, and those moments can feel frustrating or uncertain. In therapy, as in transit, these pauses do not erase progress; they’re part of the journey.
Our work is about helping people navigate those routes: making sense of where you’ve been, choosing directions for where you want to go, and finding resilience when life feels stuck. Whether through therapy, research, or advocacy, TRANSIT is about honoring the truth that healing is not only
about moving forward, it is about continuing to move and explore.
